Manuel Kretzer and Mathias Bernhard has designed a chair called the Floater Chaise for CAAD, ETH Zurich, the chair was produced in close cooperation with Acrylstein AG. Manuel Kretzer of Responsive Design Studio has sent us recliner floater that he had designed together with Mathias Bernhard. Elegant design based on the tortuous nature of the material that is typical of acrylic stones combined with advanced digital design and fabrication techniques. Generative modeling and analyzation tool used to maximize the area available. On each sheet 12mm “HI-MACS solid surfaces” and minimize the stress of bending. The design adopted in accordance with the parameters and split into three parts to be manufacturable than a standard sheet dimensions. 2D-piece CNC cut flat then vacuum formed mold on 3-axis CNC milled MDF and thereafter seamlessly glue-together to form a monolithic shell. Wings on each side seem to barely touch the ground and emphasize the floating appearance of the chair. They also allow users to switch positions while relaxing the smooth seat surface is smooth and durable.
So far it has implemented four types of colors that is, in Alpine White, Red and Black Fire. The project is still in development but different colors are available upon request.
